Castle Manor in Hyde Park, Utah

Castle Manor is an event venue just north of Logan, Utah. The building has a charming, storybook feel, with elegant interiors, tall windows, and plenty of space for both ceremonies and receptions.

One of my favorite things about Castle Manor as a photographer is the variety of natural light throughout the building. The large windows create gorgeous lighting for portraits, getting-ready photos, and candid moments throughout the day. The layout also makes it easy for couples to host their entire celebration in one place. It’s a wonderful option for couples who want a classic venue with room for personal touches.

We finally had a moment to sit down together and look through these. Karisa, they are so beautiful!!!!! Thank you so much!!!! The day went by so fast that it has been hard to process it all. Looking through these helped me relive those moments. I truly couldn’t be happier. It’s a perfect blend of the groupings and cute candids. I have no idea how to pick the ones we will frame in our house because we love so many. Again, thank you so freaking much! We feel so lucky to have found you and can’t wait to work with you again! I will defs give your name to anyone looking for photographers.

A Morning Full of Wedding Day Excitement

I arrived early to greet the bride and start preparing for the day. I always like to spend a few minutes walking through the venue when I arrive—checking ceremony lighting, scouting portrait locations, and getting my gear organized so everything runs smoothly once the timeline kicks off.

The morning began in the bridal suite, where the energy was exactly what you’d expect on a wedding day.

Bags and dresses were scattered across the room, curling irons were plugged in everywhere, and everyone was helping each other with hair, makeup, and last-minute details. The bride’s mom was doing her hair and makeup while bridesmaids chatted, laughed, and the flower girls ran in and out of the room. It was the perfect mix of chaos and excitement.

Those moments before the ceremony are always some of my favorites to photograph—real laughter, nerves, anticipation, and lots of hugs.

Groom Details and Final Touches

When the groom arrived, I ran over to the groom’s suite to capture a few quick moments before the ceremony.

Isaac was finishing up the final touches on his outfit—pulling on his custom shoes and adjusting his green three-piece suit. The groomsmen wore blue shirts with tan pants, which paired perfectly with the bridesmaids’ different blue dresses.

One of the cutest details of the day?
Their dog Quinn was the ring bearer. The ring box and tie were attached right to Quinn’s collar, ready for the ceremony.

Before heading back to the bridal suite, we grabbed a few quick solo portraits of the groom by a nearby window with beautiful natural light.

An Emotional Bridesmaids First Look

As guests started arriving, we lined up the bridesmaids for a first look with the bride.

When she stepped out, you could instantly see the emotion on everyone’s faces. The bride had tears in her eyes—and several of the bridesmaids did too. It was such a sweet moment of excitement and support.

Right before the ceremony, we also grabbed a few quick bridal portraits by a nearby window. Even just a couple minutes is enough to capture some stunning solo images before everything begins.

A Ceremony Full of Love (and a Few Jokes)

As everyone lined up on the staircase to walk into the ceremony, the anticipation in the room grew. The wedding party looked incredible.

  • Bridesmaids wore different shades of blue dresses
  • Groomsmen wore blue shirts with tan pants
  • The groom stood out in his green suit
  • Several members of the wedding party wore cozy fur accessories

The ceremony processional began with the groom and his parents, followed by the wedding party. One bridesmaid walked in with Quinn, the dog ring bearer, which brought plenty of smiles from guests. Then came the flower girls, and finally the bride walking down the aisle with her parents.

The father-of-the-bride officiated the ceremony, which made it even more meaningful. He shared stories of his daughter and now son-in-law, cracked a few jokes, and brought plenty of heartfelt emotion to the moment. Whisper and Isaac exchanged tear-filled vows, placed rings on each other’s fingers, shared their first kiss as a married couple, and were officially husband and wife.

Tips for Smooth Family Portraits

After the ceremony, we moved into family and group portraits. This is one of the busiest parts of the day, but a little planning makes it much easier.

My best tips for family portraits:

  • Create a family shot list ahead of time
  • Assign a relative who knows both families to help call names
  • Let family members know when portraits will happen
  • Keep the list focused on immediate family and important groupings

Sneaking Away for Couple Portraits

After congratulations from friends and family, we snuck the couple outside for a few quick portraits together. These little quiet moments away from the crowd are often some of the most meaningful for couples. It’s a chance to breathe, laugh together, and soak in the fact that they’re finally married. Once we wrapped those up, we headed back inside so they could grab some food while I captured candid reception moments.

Thoughtful Wedding Details

This couple put so much personality into their reception. Guests were greeted by a beautiful charcuterie table filled with snacks to enjoy throughout the evening.

For wedding favors, they had thrifted a collection of unique mugs during their engagement and created a custom wedding logo to place on each one. Even better, the groom built the pegboard display they were hung on.

At the guest book table, guests could take Polaroid photos, add them to the book, and leave a note. They also had advice cards for friends and family to fill out.

These kinds of personal touches always make weddings feel even more special.

Reception Games and Surprises

Once the DJ arrived (DJ Nexar), the reception officially kicked off. The couple played the shoe game, cut their cake, and did the traditional garter and bouquet toss.

But the garter toss came with a surprise.

The bride had secretly hidden a Smirnoff Ice under her dress. When the groom found it, he dropped to one knee and chugged it before tossing the garter into the crowd. The room erupted with laughter.

Parent Dances and First Dance

Before opening the dance floor, the couple honored their parents with spotlight dances. Instead of dancing with just one parent, they danced with both sets of parents to their wedding songs. It was a really sweet way to include everyone.

Afterward, Whisper and Isaac shared their first dance together, surrounded by friends and family. Then the dance floor opened!

Ending the Night with a Photo Dash

To wrap up the evening, we did a Photo Dash.

The DJ played one song while guests ran onto the dance floor in groups to grab a quick photo with the bride and groom. It’s a super fun way to make sure everyone who wants to be in some wedding photos gets one with the couple.

We ended with a huge group photo of everyone at the wedding, which made the perfect final image of the night.
